Clerodendron ugandense - Sky blue flowers looking like butterflies -
unusual color for tropics. Clerodendrum ugandense has been cultivated in
botanical gardens for almost 100 years, but has only recently been
considered as flowering potplant. It is a fast growing plant which in nature
grows to a length of 6-9 ft with opposite, elliptical leaves. The irregular
flowers are bright blue, often of two shades and there are long purple
anthers which bend elegantly upwards. $

Clerodendron incisum 'Musical Notes' -  small bushy shrub with small
leaves. The white flowers from delicate shapes with their long tubular and
rounded structure. They appear in large masses. The unopened flowers
resemble musical notes in the bud stage - opening to showy flower with red
stamens. Blooms on and off all year. Use as a short hedge, in small
groupings or as a single specimen plant. This perfect landscape plant is
very easy to grow, blooms in both full sun or shade, and tolerates some
drought.

Clerodendron paniculatum - This is an erect, open semiwoody shrub with large
evergreen leaves and huge showy clusters of orange-red or scarlet flowers held
above the foliage. The bush sometimes has multiple stems and gets 3-5 ft tall,
spreading 2-3 ft across. The handsome, tropical looking leaves can be as large as
12 in across, they have heart shaped bases; lower leaves are lobed and upper
leaves entire. The flowers within the pyramid shaped cluster are tiered, like a
Japanese pagoda. The showy display lasts from summer through autumn with
additional sporadic flowering throughout the year in frost free climates.  It does
best in a rich, slightly moisture retentive soil. Hardiness: USDA Zones 8 - 11, a
returning perennial in zones 8B and 9.

Clerodendron philippinum - shrub that can acquire heights to 6' with cordate
downy green leaves, flowering in tight clusters, each flower like a tiny rose or
rosebud, the calyx which is rosy/purple is beautiful and prominent before the corolla
opens. Very highly fragrant at sundown.

Clerodendron quadriloculare - Winter blooming specimen plant with large flower
heads, 8-12" in diameter. Each flower is made up of scores of smaller 3-4 inch long
flowers bursting from the center.  The leaves are great as well; succulent, green on
top, and a strong purple underneath. It will grow to 12-15 feet and prefers moist
soil. This plant will grow as either a large shrub or small tree.

Clerodendrum trichotomum - A decidious tree growing to 6m by 3m .
It is hardy to zone 7. It is in flower from August to October. The scented
flowers are hermaphrodite (have both male and female organs) and are
pollinated by Insects. We rate it 1 out of 5 for usefulness.
The plant prefers light (sandy), medium (loamy) and heavy (clay) soils.
The plant prefers acid, neutral and basic (alkaline) soils. It cannot grow in
the shade. It requires moist soil.
